How it all started...
The vision of planting the church started with an evangelist and his wife from Joliet IL. They felt called of God to plant a none denominational church and enter the ministry full time. At this time in the mid 1940's, they were planning on moving to Florida where they had heard there was a great need for gospel preaching. Having packed up to leave, they stopped by on their way out of town to say good-bye to a close friend. While they were saying their good-byes a phone call came from northern WI asking if there wasn't anyway that they could send someone to help preach the gospel in this remote area. After praying together, Len had his friend call back and say that he was willing to come. Len and Ven Johnson would arrive in Eagle River and spend a couple of years in the area, looking for a place to call home and where they could plant a church. In 1949, Len was given the opportunity to purchase the building if he could raise the purchase price in 48 hours. After praying he called some friends in IL to share what the Lord was doing. After praying again, they told him to come on down and they would get him the money. So started the Community Bible Church. Birthed by leading of the Holy Spirit, with the willing hearts of men and woman looking to plant a gospel preaching church in northern WI, which would welcome in the community, preach the bible and become a Church of the Lord. The Building
In 1910 the original church building with side room was build by the Episcopal Church. The church basement had a dirt floor with a wood furnace to heat the building. This would remain till at some time in the 1950's when oil heat and a rough cement floor was added. This core building would house summer congregations that would need to have chairs in the lawn for all to sit. In 1994-1995 God would provide for an addition to the church to meet the building codes of that time, providing upstairs toilets, a wheel chair entrance and an area for coats and fellowship.
